(TAU) is a nootropic supplement. Nootropics - also called "smart drugs" - are generally taken for perceived mental benefits such as improvements in memory, mood, focus, or motivation.
Once ingested, triacetyluridine is converted to uridine. Uridine is a precursor in the endogenous biosynthesis of CDP-choline and phosphatidylcholine. Uridine is also a neurotransmitter, as a ligand of the P2Y2 purinergic receptors, and may potentiate NGF/TrkA signalling in neuronal development and regeneration.
As a dietary supplement, TAU is often stacked with a form of choline and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, a component of fish oil) to maximise nootropic effects.
